The Warren Commission (WC) claimed that Jack Ruby entered the Dallas Police Department (DPD) basement on November 24, 1963, via the Main Street ramp, but they never showed this to be true. In fact, it is highly unlikely that he entered this way as there was a police officer stationed there and he never saw Ruby.
This post will look at another possible way that Ruby could have entered the basement.

Did Jack Ruby get out of a police squad car before shooting Lee Harvey Oswald (LHO)?
If we look at the comments of Detective H. Baron Reynolds this is a question we must ask. Firstly though, note the comment about him being told his rights.

Reynolds was advised he did not have to make a statement; that any statement he did make could be used against him in a court of law; and that he could consult an attorney at any time he desired. (CE 2029, p. 442)

This is odd to me as these rights are usually read to a suspect, not a witness. Why was Reynolds being advised of his rights? Was LHO read the same rights? If he was, they were not honored as LHO went without a lawyer during his whole time in custody despite repeated requests for one.
Here is the section that pertains to Ruby.

He also heard later from unrecalled sources there was a rumor to the effect that shortly before the shooting of OSWALD, JACK RUBY was seen getting out of an unattended Dallas police squad car parked in the basement parking area. He knew nothing further concerning this matter. (Ibid.)

Why was no effort made to find out who these unrecalled sources were? Why do trained police officers never get any names in this case? How did Ruby get into this unattended police car if these accounts are true? There have long been suspicions that Ruby got assistance into entering the basement from members of the DPD. This issue has already been covered before in this series and even the House Select Committee On Assassinations (HSCA) said that the account the WC provided us with left a lot of questions.
Since Reynolds gave this account in a session where his legal rights were read to him we have to think this seemed important to him for him to mention it. Can any WC defender show that what Reynolds heard was not true? Or that Ruby actually went down the ramp as claimed?
This rumor was never investigated to see if it was true. We know from the evidence presented in this series that Ruby did NOT go down the Main Street ramp as even the HSCA didn’t accept this claim, therefore, the claim made by the WC was never supported so it is sunk.
