There are many things to debate in the killing of Dallas Police officer J.D. TIPPIT (JDT) portion of the case, but only if you are seeking fun or to kill time.
Why? Because the FBI expert firearms identification man said this:
Representative BOGGS. So that while you can establish the fact that the cartridge case, the four that we have, were fired in that gun--
Mr. CUNNINGHAM. Yes, sir.
Representative BOGGS. **You cannot establish the fact that the bullets were fired in that gun?
Mr. CUNNINGHAM. That is correct.**
Representative BOGGS. **And you cannot--having the cartridge case and the bullet--you cannot match them up?
Mr. CUNNINGHAM. No, you cannot**.
Representative BOGGS. There is no way to do it?
Mr. CUNNINGHAM. No; other than what I have said. In other words, you can tell manufacture. But there is no way of--that I know of—of connecting or identifying a particular bullet having been loaded into a particular cartridge case.
Representative BOGGS. But there is no doubt about the fact that the four cartridge cases came from firing in that weapon?
Mr. CUNNINGHAM. They were fired in that weapon to the exclusion of all other weapons. (Cunningham, Vol. III, pp.476)
Take note of the **_** sections. The bullets pulled from JDT's body COULD NOT BE MATCHED to CE143 -- PERIOD! The bullets also could not be matched to the cartridge cases (this should have been common sense) so all the WC had were four cartridge cases fired from CE-143 that supposedly was owned and fired by Lee Harvey Oswald (LHO)!
But wait, there's more. From the HSCA testimony.
Mr. EDGAR. Regarding CE-143, Oswald's revolver, do your test-fired bullets match, microscopically, with CE-602, 603, 604, and 605?
Mr. LUTZ. Are these the bullets that were recovered from Officer Tippit?
Mr. EDGAR. These were the bullets that were recovered from the body of Officer Tippit.
Mr. LUTZ. Our microscopic examination and comparison of these bullets FAILED TO POSITIVELY IDENTIFY THIS REVOLVER AS THE ONE THAT FIRED THOSE BULLETS. (1 HSCA 486)
From the HSCA Report:
"As for the evidence in the Tippit shooting, THE BULLETS REMOVED FROM THE OFFICER'S BODY COULD NOT BE LINKED TO OSWALD'S REVOLVER". (1 HSCA 443)
"Regarding the evidence from the Tippit shooting, THE BULLETS REMOVED FROM THE OFFICER'S BODY COULD NOT BE POSITIVELY IDENTIFIED WITH OSWALD'S REVOLVER." (7 HSCA 357)
"....The panel was unable to conclude that the Tippit bullets were fired from the CE 143 revolver." (7 HSCA 381)
Some evidence this is, huh? Can anyone say acquittal? There's more than that:
Helen Markham said that JDT's murderer was wearing light grey trousers. Lee Harvey Oswald (LHO) was not.
Barbara Davis testified that JDT's murderer was wearing a dark jacket. LHO was not.
Virginia Davis testified that JDT's murderer was younger than 20 years old. LHO was not.
Ted Callaway and Sam Guinyard had the shooter fleeing down Patton Ave. on different sides of the street, crossing at opposite ends of the street and passing by them at different distances, indicating that either one or perhaps both of them had never actually seen the gunman.
William Scoggins was hiding behind his cab and never got a good enough look at the gunman. This is obvious because he never came forward as a witness at the scene of the crime. The next day, he bragged to co-workers that he had seen the shooting after seeing LHO's picture in the morning paper. His boss then reported his story to the Dallas Police Department (DPD).
Domingo Benevides was never taken down to witness a police lineup because he said that he identified LHO as JDT's murderer because that's what the media was reporting.
Every one of these six witnesses identified LHO as the gunman and yet every one of their descriptions of what they saw contains details that indicate that the man they saw may have looked similar to, but was NOT LHO.
