The House Secret Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) looked at the issue of testimony and statements changing over time due to the official conclusion receiving the majority of coverage over the previous years. They point this out with one witness in particular.
The HSCA Says…Emmett Hudson.

The groundskeeper for Dealey Plaza (DP), Emmett Hudson, would tell Warren Commission (WC) that the shots came from above and behind him. This is important because he was sitting on the steps leading up the Grassy Knoll (GK). Here is the relevant portion from his affidavit

This day I was sitting on the front steps of the sloping area and about half way down the steps. There was another man sitting there with me. He was sitting on my left and we were both facing the street with our backs to the railroad yards and the brick building. At the same time the President's car was directly in front of us, I heard a shot and I saw the President fall over in the seat. I do not know who this other man was that was sitting beside me. In our conversation he talked about having a hard time finding a place to park. He also talked about working somewhere over on Industrial Blvd. This man said Lay down and we did. I definately [sic] heard 3 shots. The shots that I heard definately [sic] came from behind and above me.

He would confirm the same thing in his WC testimony too.
Mr. LIEBELER - Did you see that shot hit anything - the third shot?
Mr. HUDSON - No, sir. I'll tell you - this young fellow that was sitting there with me - standing there with me at the present time, he says, "lay down, Mister, somebody is shooting the President." He says, "Lay down, lay down." and he kept repeating, "Lay down." so he was already laying down one way on the sidewalk, so I just laid down over on the ground and resting my arm on the ground and when that third shot rung out and when I was close to the ground - you could tell the shot was coming from above and kind of behind.
This would indicate that the shots came from behind him which means the GK and not the Texas School Book Depository (TSBD) building as the WC claimed.
By the time of the HSCA Hudson would say he did NOT believe a shot came from behind the stockade fence, but even the HSCA had a comment about this. On page 87 of their report we see the following comment by them on this topic.

…The witnesses were interviewed over a substantial period of time, some of them several says, even weeks after the assassination. By that time, numerous accounts of the number and direction of the shots had been published. The committee believed that the witnesses' memories and testimony on the number, direction, and timing of the shots may have may have been substantially influenced by the intervening publicity concerning the events of November 22, 1963. This is stating that the witnesses could doubt their recollections if they did not agree with the repetitive pronouncements of the official narrative over the years due to them thinking they may be wrong about what they heard.
There is a footnote after the above statement and this is what it says.

(155) …The testimony of Emmett Joseph Hudson may illustrate the difficulty of finding facts based on the recollections of witnesses, especially those who have had the opportunity to read about the events in newspapers or who may have been LED TO CHANGE THEIR TESTIMONY by the manner in which they were questioned at the time of the assassination. Hudson was located in front of the stockade fence on the grassy knoll, in a position where he may have been expected to have heard distinctly any shot fired from the knoll. Hudson gave a sworn statement to the Sheriff’s Department of Dallas County on November 22, 1963. He said he was in Dealey Plaza, sitting on the steps in front of the stockade fence, facing Elm Street, during the time of the assassination. He heard three shots. They came from “behind and above me.” (Emphasis added) (HSCAR, p. 605, n. 155)

The HSCA is clearly saying that IF he changed his testimony, a claim made by WC defenders, it is because he was made to by the way in which he was questioned and treated after the assassination. And also because of the coverage over the years too by the media. We see Hudson clearly said the shots came from the GK area.
The Towner photographs shows him sitting on the steps as he said.

The point can be made that many believe a shooter was behind the concrete abutment (Black Dog Man) so in essence Hudson could have said he was NOT behind the stockade fence and been right. Some researchers believe there was a man behind the fence and one behind the concrete abutment.
