The Warren Commission (WC) stated Lee Harvey Oswald (LHO) acted alone in killing President John F. Kennedy (JFK) and wounding Governor John B. Connally (JBC) and that he accomplished this by shooting both of them with one bullet (Single Bullet Theory--SBT).
In 1966, Edward J. Epstein wrote a book called Inquest: The Warren Commission and the Establishment of Truth that gave him access to the members of the WC. Here a few comments they gave him that he quoted on page 150 of his book.
*******************************
Senator Richard Russell, a critic of the WC himself eventually, told researcher Harold Weisberg the following:
Quote on
We have NOT been told the truth about Lee Harvey Oswald by federal agencies.
Quote off
This makes you wonder how they could come to the conclusion they did based on this one point alone. For more of Senator Russell’s comments see #132 of this series (The WC’s First Dissenter).
Senator John Cooper told Epstein the following:
Quote on
I, too, OBJECTED to such a conclusion; there was NO evidence to show both men were hit by the SAME BULLET…(Emphasis added)
Quote off
That basically says it all, doesn’t it? Senator Russell did NOT support the SBT either and wanted there to be a note in the report saying he was NOT in support of that conclusion, but was told they did NOT want any dissenting voices in the report. So much for the search for the truth, huh?
Representative Hale Boggs, another eventual critic of the WC, told Epstein the following:
Quote on
I had strong DOUBTS about it (SBT)…I feel the question was never resolved.
Quote off
That makes three who did NOT believe in the SBT conclusion the WC reached “based on the evidence”. Here are some more quotes by Boggs regarding the WC and its conclusion.
Quote on
According to one of his friends: "Hale felt very, very torn during his work (on the Commission) ... he wished he had never been on it and wished he'd never signed it (the Warren Report)." Another former aide argued that, "Hale always returned to one thing: Hoover lied his eyes out to the Commission - on Oswald, on Ruby, on their friends, the bullets, the gun, you name it."
