Why would the defense attorney tear William Whaley apart IF he was telling the truth to the Warren Commission (WC)?
William Whaley was supposedly the taxi driver who drove Lee Harvey Oswald (LHO) to his rooming house after he left the bus he had allegedly taken once leaving the Texas School Book Depository (TSBD). As we saw in post #27 (Mark Lane’s response to points made during a Henry Wade Press Conference) Whaley was NOT the first taxi driver mentioned by the authorities though.

Point Eleven
A taxi driver, Darryl Click, took LHO home, where he changed clothes. Wade said, "He then--the bus, he asked the bus driver to stop, got off at a stop, caught a taxi cab driver, Darryl Click--I don't have his exact place--and went to his home in Oak City, CHANGED HIS CLOTHES hurriedly, and then left."

Whatever happened to this driver? We don’t know as the name quickly changed to William Whaley and no more was heard of “Darryl Click”. For once even the WC was curious about this issue.
Mr. BALL. Do you know a taxi driver named Darrell Click?
Mr. WHALEY. I may know his face, sir, but not his name.
Mr. BALL. You don't know his name?
Mr. WHALEY. We go mostly by numbers.
[Note: For more on William Whaley see posts #17 (Cab Issue) and #169 (William Whaley Identification Issue).]
So enter William Whaley. He would say this to the WC during his testimony.
Mr. BELIN. You never did see his picture in the paper?
Mr. WHALEY. I saw his picture in the paper the next morning, sir.
Mr. BELIN. That would have been Sunday morning, the 24th?
Mr. WHALEY. I guess it was, if you say it was, sir.
Mr. BELIN. I don't want to---
Mr. WHALEY. I don't want to get you mixed up and get your whole investigation mixed up through my ignorance, but a good defense attorney could take me apart. I get confused. I try to tell you exactly what happened, to the best of my ability, when they brought Oswald out in the lineup of four. He was the third man out. I don't know which way they count them.
Of course he also said this:
Mr. BALL. And he was talking, was he?
Mr. WHALEY. He showed no respect for the policemen, he told them what he thought about them. They knew what they were doing and they were trying to railroad him and he wanted his lawyer.
Mr. BALL. Did that aid you in the identification of the man?
Mr. WHALEY. No, sir; it wouldn't have at all, except that I said anybody who wasn't sure could have picked out the right one just for that. It didn't aid me because I knew he was the right one as soon as I saw him.
So we see he said anyone could have picked LHO out of the lineup since he was yelling he was being “railroaded” by the police. Also, as we saw in post #53 (Lineup Issue), LHO was made to tell his name and occupation so this too could have led a blind person to him. Let’s look at the comment Whaley made a little earlier again.

IF he was telling them “exactly what happened” then why would he get “confused?” It would seem ONLY if he was trying to remember what they told him to say would he be “confused” to me. His comment about a defense lawyer “taking him apart” is very telling too. Can any WC defender explain why this would be IF he was just telling the truth as he claimed?
