The Church Committee (CC) looked into the assassination of President John F. Kennedy (JFK) during their tenure in 1975. This post will look at a claim made by both the CIA and the FBI regarding the assassination of JFK. Here is the relevant portion from the CC.

Before the Warren Commission issued its report on the assassination of President Kennedy on September 24, 1964, both the CIA and the FBI had assured the Commission that they would never close the case. When appearing before the Warren Commission, CIA Deputy Director for Plans Richard Helms stated:
Q. ...after the Commission completed its report you would keep the matter open if there was anything new that developed in the future that could be properly presented to the authorities?
A. Yes. I would assume that the case would never be closed.
FBI Director [J. Edgar] Hoover made a similar statement before the Warren Commission:
...so far as the FBI is concerned, the case will be continued in an open classification for all time.
A. 1965: Termination of the AMLASH Operation
Although developments in the AMLASH operation should have raised questions about the possibility of a connection between that operation and the President's assassination, there is no evidence that either the FBI or the CIA investigated such a possibility.
As the Select Committee's Assassination Report noted:
Toward the latter part of 1964, AMLASH became insistent that the assassination of the Cuban was a necessary initial step in a successful coup.
A fall 1964 memorandum states:
AMLASH was told and fully understands that the United States Government cannot become involved to any degree in the "first step" of this plan. If he needs support, he realizes he will have to get it elsewhere. (CC Report, Section V, p. 77)

So despite claims by FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover (JEH) and the CIA Deputy Director for Plans Richard Helms that the JFK assassination case would stay open indefinitely if information came to them that was of importance, we see this did not happen. The CC goes into a lot of detail about AMLASH to show that this was important information that should have caused action by the FBI and CIA IF they meant what they had pledged, but nothing was done with this matter. The CC said that it was "...not until 1967 that both the AMLASH operation and the President's assassination, including the facts developed in 1965, were reviewed by either agency." (Ibid. p.80)
Why were these agencies not interested in this information if they meant their pledges and were interested in running honest investigations of JFK's assassination as they claimed in 1964? It would seem that they just gave the Warren Commission (WC) and the country lip service as they had no intention to investigate matters like this or any new evidence brought forth by independent researchers or tips. Just look at all the things that New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison uncovered during his investigation, and he did not have the resources either of these agencies had. Why did they ignore all this evidence IF they were searching for the truth of what happened on November 22, 1963, as they claimed they were?
Remember, even the WC was aware that both the CIA and FBI were culpable in some way and that it was quite odd that they would be leading the "investigation" given this fact.
Unfortunately for the United States and the American people this was all a sham in 1964 and all the subsequent years. The real culprits are so powerful that they will never be brought to justice in any way in all likelihood. We were given a huge cover-up in 1964 and a continuous lie ever since.
