The Warren Commission (WC) claimed that Lee Harvey Oswald (LHO) assassinated President John F. Kennedy (JFK), shot and killed Dallas Police Officer J.D. Tippit (JDT), wounded Texas Governor John B. Connally (JBC) and attempted to kill retired General Edwin A. Walker (EAW). The evidence supporting these claims is absent from the WC’s twenty-six volumes of exhibits and testimony however, therefore, this has left many questions for us today.
This is one of those questions.

Was it just another coincidence that Jack Ruby phoned the same city that Dallas Police squad car #107 would be sold to?
Do the coincidences ever stop in this case? Dallas Police Department (DPD) squad car #107 is relevant because LHO’s housekeeper Earlene Roberts mentioned this number to the FBI and during her testimony before the WC.
Mr. BALL. On the 29th of November, Special Agents Will Griffin and James Kennedy of the Federal Bureau of Investigation interviewed you and you told them that "after Oswald had entered his room about 1 p.m. on November 22, 1963, you looked out the front window and saw police car No. 207?
Mrs. ROBERTS. No. 107.
Mr. BALL. And you say that there were two uniformed policemen in the car?
Mrs. ROBERTS. Yes, and it was in a black car. It wasn't an accident squad car at all.
Mr. BALL. Were there two uniformed policemen in the car?
Mrs. ROBERTS. Oh, yes.
Mr. BALL. And one of the officers sounded the horn?
Mrs. ROBERTS. Just kind of a "tit-tit"--twice.
This has caused interest amongst researchers for many years. Who was in this car? For me, one possibility was that she simply saw an extra number on the car that wasn’t there. Perhaps she saw JDT’s car which was #10? Since he was in a solitary car assignment it leaves the question of who would be with him if it was his car that Roberts saw? She said that the car contained two officers.
Another possibility could be either a cop car impersonation or the original was brought back to Oak Cliff as part of the conspiracy. We find several interesting things in the twenty-six volumes that could show that one of these scenarios could have taken place.
The first piece of evidence is innocuous in and of itself. It is part of Ruby’s phone records that became Commission Exhibit (CE) 1322. It has the following listing.

Sulphur Springs is about 80 miles from Dallas by car. This call was placed by Ruby to Clarence Rector who was an automobile transporter in Sulphur Springs. You’ll also notice that the telephone call was placed on the same night that someone took a shot at EAW. Like I said before this is interesting, but not of much importance by itself. The part that makes it interesting is the fact that the DPD sold squad car #107 to a used car dealership in…Sulphur Springs. We find confirmation of this in CE 2045 which is a letter from Charles Batchelor, Assistant Chief of Police, to Norman Redlick (sic) of the WC. It states the following in the letter.

This refers to your inquiry by telephone as to the location of police car number 107 on November 22, 1963.
Investigation reveals that the Dallas Police Department did not have a car with this number on the date in question. We had a 1962 model Ford carrying this number which was sold on April 17, 1963, to Mr. Elvis Blount, a used car dealer in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Before sale, all signs and numbers were removed from the car and the areas involved were repainted.
We did not resume using this number (107) until February, 1964. (CE 2045, p. 460)

What a coincidence, huh? Of all the places that the DPD could have sold the squad car to it just happens to wind up in the same city Ruby phoned an automobile transporter in. And the sale took place just one week after Ruby’s call! Were the signs and numbers actually removed as claimed? We will never know for sure, but even if they were removed this doesn’t mean that they couldn’t have been put back on.
It would be safe to use #107 too as the DPD had no active squad car with that number on November 22. Think of what you could get done with a fake police car. Who would stop it or question anything that you did in it?
