The Warren Commission (WC) claimed that Lee Harvey Oswald (LHO) assassinated President John F. Kennedy (JFK) all by himself on November 22, 1963. He allegedly accomplished this task by firing three shots at the presidential limousine with two bullets hitting their target. All three shots were fired from behind the limousine according to the WC.
The early reports of the shooting did not agree with this claim. This post will look at these early reports and what they showed.
******************************************
Some of the most key witnesses in the entire case were the doctors and nurses on duty at Parkland Hospital (PH) on November 22, 1963. They viewed the body of JFK up close and had to evaluate his wounds in order to decide what course of treatment was needed. This is why these witnesses have been ostracized and ignored by the WC and their defenders over the years.
Dr. Robert Shaw was the chairman of the department of thoracic surgery at PH and he stated the following regarding the wound he observed in the throat area.
Quote on
The first bullet entered President Kennedy’s trachea, in the front of his neck , coursing downward into his right lung… (New York Herald Tribune, November 28, 1963)

This is pretty clear. A doctor who observed the throat wound up close said that the wound was one of entrance which means it had to come from the front of the limousine. This observation was confirmed by Dr. William Kemp Clark who would make several statements to the media about this issue.

Mr. Kennedy was hit by a bullet in the throat just below the Adam's apple… (New York Times, November 23, 1963)
Dr. Clark would later state that Kennedy was struck by a bullet at the necktie knot and added that it “ranged downward in the throat and did not exit.” (Ibid., November 27, 1963)

Dr. Robert McClelland would confirm to Richard Dudman of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that the throat wound was one of entrance. Another doctor, Charles Carrico, also worked on the throat wound would tell Bryce Miller of United Press International (UPI) the following.
Quote on
Dr. Carrico, the first man in the [operating] room, forced an endotracheal (breathing tube) down the President’s windpipe as Dr. Malcolm Perry, an assistant professor of surgery, dashed in.
Dr. Perry decided further help in breathing was needed. The first bullet had opened the windpipe. Dr. Perry inserted a tube through the bullet hole. (Bryce Miller, UPI via the New York Times, November 30, 1963)

This again shows that the wound was one of entrance as if the wound was an exit wound, there would have been a much larger hole, and this would have been easily noted. Further confirmation of a bullet entering JFK’s throat can be found in the March 16, 1964, letter from FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover to WC General Counsel J. Lee Rankin.

…During the course of the spectrographic examinations previously conducted on the fabric surrounding the hole in the front of the shirt, including the tie, no copper was found in excess of that present elsewhere in undamaged areas of the shirt and tie. Therefore, no copper was found which could be attributed to projectile fragments. (Gallagher Exhibit 1)

Why does this confirm a shot from the front? Because the spectrographic tests showed no copper was found in the shirt or tie that was in excess of other areas of the shirt. This means even if the Single Bullet Theory (SBT) was correct, and it isn't, the bullet fired could NOT be a 6.5-mm COPPER-jacketed bullet based on these results. Thus, the WC's conclusion cannot be correct.
In an effort to try and hide these truths the authorities went into action. Look at this dishonest statement by Assistant District Attorney Bill Alexander.

The known facts about the bullets, and the position of the assassin, suggested that he started shooting as the President’s car was coming toward him, swung his rifle in an arc of almost 180 degrees and fired at least twice more. (John Herbers, New York Times, November 26, 1963)

This ridiculous claim would be dropped in short order as not one witness could be found to say that the first shot was fired while the limousine was on Houston Street. This would have been the smart thing to do IF LHO was the lone assassin as claimed, but he wasn't.
Once this lie was dropped this led to the arrangements of the boxes in the alleged Sniper’s Nest being rearranged as they had to show that they were used to help the assassin fire at Elm Street.
The original layout of the cartons can be seen in the November 23, 1963, edition of the Dallas Morning News on page 3 of section 1. This arrangement was how the cartons were actually found, but they did NOT support the claim that the assassin fired at the limousine when it was on Elm Street. Therefore, they were altered.
Life would come to the rescue once again by making the following ridiculous claim in order to explain how JFK could be shot in the throat from the front while the shooter was behind the limousine.
Quote on
Since by the time the limousine was fifty yards past Oswald and the President’s back was turned almost directly to the sniper, it has been hard to understand how the bullet could enter the front of his throat. Hence the recurring guess that there was a second sniper somewhere else. But the 8 mm film shows the President turning his body far around to the right as he waves to someone in the crowds. His throat is exposed –toward the sniper's nest—just before he clutches it . [Life, December 6, 1963)

JFK never turned towards the Texas School Book Depository (TSBD) Building in this manner. He stayed seated and faced toward the front of the limousine. This was another blatant lie that was issued to try and explain why the doctors and nurses at PH had witnessed an entry wound in the throat of JFK. The lengths that the authorities went to in order to try and hide the truth is astounding. These claims flew in the face of all the eyewitness statements and the available films and photographs, but they didn't care as the overriding concern was in getting the American people to accept the lone assassin theory.
The FBI put a gag order on the PH personnel to prevent any more comments like the ones we have seen in this post. Suddenly, the news came that the prosectors had discovered a “small neat wound” in JFK’s back. Supposedly, the doctors at PH had not observed this wound “because Mr. Kennedy was lying on his back on an emergency room table during the entire time they were attending him. (AP Dispatch from Washington, December 18, 1963)
The wound in the throat would be blamed on either a metal fragment or a piece of bone that was related to the head shot. Pure nonsense. The PH doctors were very qualified in the area of gunshot wounds as the hospital handled hundreds of such cases every year. This information came via a source and not the prosectors at Bethesda Naval Hospital.

Conclusions reached in a post-mortem examination at Bethesda would have questionable validity. The doctors at Dallas had made their incision through the bullet hole in performing a tracheotomy in an effort to restore satisfactory breathing. The hole was slightly below the Adam's apple, at the precise point where a tracheotomy is performed. Changes in the tissue in the several hours before the body reached Bethesda, moreover, would have increased the difficulty of reconstructing the path of the bullet. (Richard Dudman, New Republic, December 21, 1963)

This shows that the source didn't know what they were talking about. The doctors at PH stuck to their statement that the throat wound was one of entrance.
All these statements show that the official conclusion is incorrect. They also create doubt to the point where the official conclusion is shown to be unable to pass the requirement of proof. Thus, the WC's conclusion is sunk.
