In 1975, the United States Senate set up a special committee which was bipartisan to look into the activities of the intelligence agencies of America. They also included a look into how these groups performed during the Warren Commission's (WC) "investigation" in 1964 of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy (JFK). This committee took the name of its chairman Frank Church (D-Idaho) and this series is dedicated to their report and interviews.
In the Church Committee's (CC) report they did an overall look at how the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) performed in the areas I covered in the previous article ("William Sullivan Tells Some Lies") and it deserves to be covered.

As we saw in the previous article the FBI focused on very little outside of the accused assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald (LHO), and yet, William Sullivan had the gall to say they did an "all-out effort" in looking into the issue of possible foreign conspiracies. He did admit that their work left "gaps" in the final narrative and that is being very generous as they totally ignored all leads foreign and domestic and focused on just one person -- LHO.

These teletypes sound good for the FBI, huh? We see who they considered to be "subversive" as well and this group fell under Sullivan's division. Why bombing suspects would be considered for a high-powered rifle shooting can be questioned, however. Do people who use bombs also use rifles to kill? I have to fight NOT to laugh when reading their proclamation about conducting an investigation to determine who was responsible for the assassination as everyone should know that this is a joke. Even if you are not familiar with one piece of evidence all you have to know is that JFK was murdered on November 22, 1963, and the FBI had their first report finished by December 9, 1963!
What kind of investigation is wrapped up in seventeen days or less? Especially one as complicated as the assassination of a sitting United States president. If this wasn't so sad it would be hilarious. One could think the writer of this teletype just came off the stand-up comic circuit because it is so funny.
Who could keep FBI HQ fully apprised of much in seventeen days? And this is being generous as it had to be put together and then printed. Just as they would be getting a tiny bit of traction the report was out and FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover (JEH) was leaking parts of it to the press as he resented the WC. He deliberately did this to try and derail the WC, but that didn't work, however.
It still had an effect though since so much was leaked the WC was forced to agree with the nation's "leading crime fighter" to retain its credibility so at the end of the day they just rubber stamped his report that was released seventeen days after the assassination! This was the same leading crime fighter who had denied that the crime syndicate even existed for decades as well. You cannot make this stuff up.
Despite this, these teletypes sound good, the FBI sent one out just eleven hours and twenty minutes after the last one that told the field agents what their boss was thinking and that they better toe the line.

In just a little over twelve hours the FBI went from "an all-out effort" to one of, "Hey, we have our guy." What could they have discovered that fast to make them believe LHO was guilty? Well, the FBI, with no jurisdiction, supposedly found an order for a rifle at 4:00 a.m. on November 23, 1963, that they tied to LHO. What was the problem with this order?
Firstly, it was allegedly in the name of "A. Hidell" and it was NEVER shown that this was an alias that LHO used at any time in his life. In fact, when he was in New Orleans during the summer of 1963 he said he was being directed by a man named "A. Hidell" to set up a FPCC chapter and to do other things.
Secondly, the alleged order form the WC provided us with shows a DIFFERENT rifle from the one allegedly found in the Texas School Book Depository (TSBD) Building. The order form depicts a 36" carbine being selected and the alleged murder weapon was a 40" short rifle. The WC never proved how LHO would have received the wrong rifle. They claimed he was sent the wrong one, but research has shown that Klein's Sporting Goods (KSG) had NO 40" rifles in stock to send on purpose or by accident in March 1963.
Thirdly, the WC never proved that LHO received any weapons at his Dallas P.O. Box as they claimed. Texas had strict laws and regulations regarding shipping weapons and they were even tighter for P.O. boxes. They never produced any evidence showing the requirements were met and they never produced one postal employee who said that they gave LHO the weapons.
Finally, the weapon found in the TSBD had never been shown to be the same one that was supposedly accidently sent to him. The only evidence that the WC had to link LHO to weapons were the alleged backyard photographs that have never been shown to be authentic and that LHO is in them.
Furthermore, they have never shown the rifle in them was the same one allegedly found in the TSBD.

Beyond this supposed rifle order there is NO other evidence that could have made the FBI so sure that LHO was the assassin this fast. Even IF he was the assassin, and he wasn't, that did NOT mean that no one else wasn't involved or that any other countries were not involved.
It would have the desired effect however, as all field agents knew what JEH was thinking and how they should proceed IF they valued their career with the FBI. This teletype basically ended any activity involving the anti-Castro Cuban exiles, informants and members of those subversive groups. This left just LHO to look into.
Does this seem normal to you? These actions show beyond any shadow of a doubt that LHO was framed (and this does not mean he couldn't have been involved in some way either) for the assassination and the murder of Dallas Police Officer J.D. Tippit (JDT) as the FBI never investigated any other possibility with any sincerity. This also shows that the FBI had to be covering up the truth of what happened on November 22, 1963. That leads to the $1,000,000.00 question of, why?
