The Warren Commission (WC) alleged weapon for the assassination is shown above. This weapon is a 6.5 Mannlicher Carcano, bolt action rifle. The way this rifle works is as follows. With one cartridge in the chamber, the shot is fired. During the shot, the bullet is projected from the rifle and the shell remains in the chamber. The next step is to eject the spent shell and load a new cartridge. To do this, the right hand is taken off the trigger and the bolt action knob is grabbed and cycled back to pop the old spent shell out. The motion to pop the old spent shell out requires to first move the knob up and then back. The bolt action knob is then cycled forward to load a new cartridge, and finally moved down. Next, the right hand is moved back to the trigger and the weapon is re-aligned thru the scope for the next shot.
The famous film that was taken during the assassination is the Zapruder film. From this footage together with the exposure rate of the film, it was determined that the entire assassination took place within 6 to 6.5 seconds. Extensive testing of the above weapon found that only three shots could have been taken in this time frame. The time between two shoots as detailed above takes about 3 seconds or more, especially when allowing for time to realign the transverse moving target.
Why is this a problem for the WC? Of the shots fired that day, one shot totally missed the limousine and hit a curb by the triple underpass. This deflected a piece of concrete that cut James Tague in the face. This leaves only two shots that are responsible for the wounds to JFK and Governor Connally. JFK was left with three wounds (head, neck, and upper back) and Connally was hit with at least one shot. Even if you combine two of these wounds for the single bullet theory, it still surpasses the capability of the alleged weapon.
