The Saga of Joe Molina
The Dallas Police Department (DPD) did look at, briefly, several other people in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy (JFK). In all fairness to them, they may have looked at these two men much more IF not dissuaded by the White House from doing so. Remember, the White House, i.e., President Lyndon B. Johnson (LBJ) told Chief Curry that it was just one man pretty soon after the assassination.
One of these men was Joe Molina who also worked in the Texas School Book Depository (TSBD) Building. Molina is an interesting character as he matches the profile of Lee Harvey Oswald (LHO) who also worked at the TSBD at the time of the assassination. Both were tied to communist groups, and both were possibly FBI informants. Molina was the co-founder of the G.I. Forum which had been dubbed a subversive group by the DPD's intelligence unit. The group was formed in 1954 by Molina and William Lowery. Molina would then be chosen to be the chair of the group. Here is a summary of their activities in 1955.
www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=10026#relPageId=10
If you look at the page three of this summary, you will see that it states that Lowery had been a previous member of the Communist Party (CP). Was this true or just cover? The reason for this question will become clear later on. This is important because on page four of this summary you will notice that FBI informant Dallas T-1 felt that Molina could never be recruited by the CP because he appeared to be "strongly opposed to the CP." (NARA Record Number: 124-10371-10107, p. 4)
This would call into question why Molina would want to be part of a group that involved Lowery who had been a former member of the CP. Well, if we look at Willam Weston's great article, "Spider's Web -- History of the TSBD", we may get a different picture of Lowery.

Joe Molina, credit manager for the TSBD since February 1947, knew Bill Lowery, an undercover agent for the FBI... While at the TSBD, Oswald saw others who were leading double lives including Joe Molina, a friend of undercover agent Bill Lowery and possibly a spy himself... In testimony given at a hearing of the Subversive Activities Control Board in 1963, Lowery admitted he was an FBI informant infiltrating the GI Forum. By implication his friend Molina was an informant too. (William Weston, "Spider's Web -- History of the TSBD", Dealey Plaza Echo, Volume 10, Issue 1, March 2006)

This article states that Lowery was really an undercover agent for the FBI and not just an informant. He was at least an FBI informant as he testified to being this under oath. So, we have Lowery and Molina being FBI informants in the same group -- G.I. Forum. They only had four other members! This is what the FBI does all the time. A good number of people in these subversive groups are actually FBI informants. Of course, if the group ever does anything bad this part is never mentioned by the media.
Apparently, a number of people were of interest following the assassination, but the ONLY ones that we know about for sure are Molina and Wesley Frazier. Chief Jesse Curry was asked about Molina during his November 24, 1963, press conference.

Q. Is there no doubt now [after LHO was shot] that nobody else is involved as an accomplice?
Curry. I would NOT make that statement.
Q. Do you have any possible---?
Curry. I wouldn’t comment on it because I would certainly hate to say we’re convinced that nobody else is involved and then have somebody else involved.
Q. Have you talked with anybody besides this fellow Molina who might conceivably have a role---?
Curry. I don’t want to comment on that. (CE 2147, p. 1) (Emphasis added)

Molina was considered a suspect, and this is confirmed in the way he was treated. Molina testified before the WC, at his insistence, that the DPD showed up at his house at 1:30 a.m. on November 23, 1963.
Mr. MOLINA. Well, on November 23d following the assassination, I was paid a visit by the local police department at 1:30 in the morning and they sort of wanted to tie me up with this case in some way or another and they thought that I was implicated.
Mr. BALL. What makes you think they thought you were implicated?
Mr. MOLINA. Well, they were looking for something. I don't know what it was they were looking for in the house.
Mr. BALL. They came to your house here in Dallas?
Mr. MOLINA. That's right, woke up my wife and children; scared my wife half to death.
Mr. BALL. Did they search the house?
Mr. MOLINA. Yes.
Mr. BALL. Did they have a search warrant?
Mr. MOLINA. I don't know whether they did or not.
Mr. BALL. Did they tell you what they were looking for?
Mr. MOLINA. No.
Molina said they just showed up at his house at 1:30 a.m. to search his house. When asked if they had a search warrant Molina said, "I don't know whether they did or not." This is a good indicator that they did NOT have one as otherwise they would have announced that they were searching the house and that they had a search warrant. Yes, I know it was stressful, and he could have forgot, but he did NOT say that. He said he did not know, and this is unacceptable IF they had one as you are obliged to inform the person that you have a warrant.
Further proof that they invaded this man's home with no search warrant is the fact that all they did was ask him questions about the G.I. Forum. You have to show probable cause to obtain a search warrant from a judge and saying that he was a member of some six-man group isn't enough.
Mr. BALL. Then what happened?
Mr. MOLINA. Well, they asked me questions whether I knew different persons that belong to the G.I. Forum--
Mr. BALL. To what?
Mr. MOLINA. G.I. Forum, this club I belonged to here in Dallas.
Mr. BALL. Who was it that asked you that?
Mr. MOLINA. Well, I think it was Mr. Garroway did most of the questioning and police Lieutenant Revill, I believe---yeah, that was his name.
Mr. BALL. What did they ask you?
Mr. MOLINA. They asked me if I knew certain persons that had come into the forum when it was first initiated and if I was acquainted with them and if I associated with them, so forth and so on. I said my activities were limited to the club. I didn't have any social, you know, I wasn't intimate with them but merely a club that was started...
So basically all they had was he was a member of a group that had six members and two of them were FBI informants. Some lead there. I know that this group was on the subversive list, but so was the Fair Play for Cuba Committee (FPCC) and there seemed to be no interest in that group at all from the DPD or the FBI. If you are guilty by association, then LHO's membership in the FPCC would make it a conspiracy by itself.
This statement shows that they had no warrant.
Mr. BALL. What else happened?
Mr. MOLINA. Well, after the police came, they didn't know whether--they were undecided what to do, whether they would take me in for questioning or not and so they decided evidently, since I told them--they asked me if they could take a look around. I said "Sure, I don't have anything to hide, look around". They looked around and did a lot of searching and my wife started to get back in bed. She didn't know that was going on. She thought they Just want to question me and they told her she had to get out of bed and go into the living room and the kids were in the back room. I only have two bedrooms and the kids were sleeping out there. They woke up the kids; they were looking in their room, so they started questioning the kids, too. They started to ask me questions and ask the kids about it. In other words, to corroborate our statements. I didn't know at the time they were doing it but later on found out. They couldn't find anything. I knew they wouldn't find anything. I didn't know what they were looking for in the first place. They decided to bring me down to the Dallas Police Department for questioning.
This proves that they had no warrant as they asked if they could search his house.
Furthermore, they didn't know what to do with him so we can assume they did not go before a judge with this kind of mindset to get a search warrant. This is Gestapo tactics. Plain and simple. IF you think he was involved then you need to work the system and follow the law and get a search warrant.
Him giving permission to the DPD when they had no warrant is what drives defense lawyers nuts. You never give permission to search your house IF they don't have a warrant. They could have planted evidence against you. IF you are guilty then it is their job to prove that you are following the law. That is what it is there for.
Molina, like many others, said that the shots fired at JFK came from the WEST area of Dealey Plaza (DP) which means the famous Grassy Knoll (GK) area.
Mr. BALL. Did you go out on the street to see the motorcade?
Mr. MOLINA. Yes. I was standing on the front steps.
------
Mr. BALL. You saw the Presidents car pass?
Mr. MOLINA. Yes.
Mr. BALL. Did you see anything after that?
Mr. MOLINA. Well, I heard the shots.
Mr. BALL. Where--what was the source of the sound?
Mr. MOLINA. Sort of like it reverberated, sort of kind of came from the west side; that was the first impression I got. Of course, the first shot was fired then there was an interval between the first and second longer than the second and third.
In addition to saying they sounded like they came from the west, he also said what many others would say in that the interval between the first and second shots was longer than the interval between the second and third shots. IF LHO was firing, he would have been using a bolt-action rifle which means he could not fire shots close together like many heard. The WC said he would have needed at least 2.6 seconds to recycle the bolt and of course you had to reacquire the target and then aim. There had to be more than one gun involved.
Molina would also say that he saw no police officer with TSBD Superintendent Roy Truly. The official story said that DPD motorcycle officer Marrion Baker came to the TSBD quickly and then went inside with Truly, but Molina never saw this happen.
Mr. BALL. Did you see Mr. Truly go into the building?
Mr. MOLINA. Yes.
Mr. BALL. Where were you when you saw him go into the building?
Mr. MOLINA. I was right in the entrance.
Mr. BALL. Did you see a police officer with him?
Mr. MOLINA. I didn't see a police officer. I don't recall seeing a police officer but I did see him go inside.
Mr. BALL. Did you see a white-helmeted police officer any time there in the entrance?
Mr. MOLINA. Well, of course, there might have been one after they secured the building, you know.
Mr. BALL. No, I mean when Truly went in; did you see Truly actually go into the building?
Mr. MOLINA. I saw him go in.
The problem with seeing one when the building was secured is that didn't happen until almost 2:00 p.m.! It seems like another part of the official conclusion is down the drain. The WC knew this so they continued to press Molina on this. Again, this would not be allowed in a court of law.
Mr. BALL. Where were you standing?
Mr. MOLINA. Right at the front door; right at the front door.
Mr. BALL. Outside the front door?
Mr. MOLINA. Yes, outside the front door I was standing; the door was right behind me.
Mr. BALL. Were you standing on the steps?
Mr. MOLINA. Yes, on the uppermost step.
Mr. BALL. You actually saw Truly go in?
Mr. MOLINA. Yeah.
Mr. BALL. You were still standing there?
Mr. MOLINA. Yes.
Mr. BALL. How long was it after you heard the shots?
Mr. MOLINA. Oh, I would venture to say maybe 20 or 30 seconds afterwards.
This would have been objected to for badgering the witness as this question was asked and answered already. He was near the front door. He saw Truly go in, but he NEVER saw a DPD cop go in with Truly. Molina sunk the WC right here.
Perhaps because of this testimony given on April 7, 1964, Molina would lose his job at the TSBD after sixteen years of service. Molina felt it was because he was labeled as a subversive by the DPD which of course they denied. He would file a lawsuit against Radio Station WWR which was owned by the city of Dallas for making statements that he said smeared him. Chief Curry stated that Molina's name was never used, however.
www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=233197#relPageId=5
Otis Williams was Molina's direct supervisor, and he said Molina was let go due to automation that was being enacted.
www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=233197#relPageId=9
Either way, Molina was gone, but he received a very good severance package and unemployment benefits. He also obtained a new job at the Neuhoff Company. O.V. Campbell was the Vice President for the TSBD, and he said Molina was not let go because of the events of November 23, 1963. He too said that plans had been underway to replace him with automation before the assassination had occurred.
Perhaps he wasn't let go because of the events of November 23, 1963, but instead because of what he saw and heard (see above) that did NOT match the later made-up official conclusion.
www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=233197#relPageId=13
Molina felt that it was the events of November 23, 1963, that cost him his job as it was in the Dallas Morning News on that day. While it doesn't mention him by name it was probably not hard to figure it out if someone had wanted to. Here is what was in the newspaper.
www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=233197#relPageId=16
The G.I. Forum was a good organization to blame initially since several members had been tied to the CP and this was the initial target before the White House told Curry that it was one man. The problem with this was that Molina did not renew his membership in the group back in July 1962. He was no longer a member of that group so why was he still being tied to it?
Joe Molina's 11/23/63 affidavit:
www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=232839#relPageId=3
So, why was the WC claiming that he was and that is why the DPD went to his home in the middle of the night?

Apparently because of Molina’s employment at the Depository and his membership in a veterans’ organization, the American G.I. Forum, that the Dallas police considered possibly subversive, Dallas policeman searched Molina’s home with his permission, at about 1:30 a.m., Saturday, November 23. During the day Molina was intermittently interrogated at police headquarters for 6 to 7 hours, chiefly about his membership in the American G.I. Forum, and also about Oswald. (WCR. p. 237)

Why was his house raided, and he was interrogated about a group he hadn't been a member of for a year and four months? Why was the WC NOT mentioning that he was NOT a member anymore? Because that would make the DPD look like the Gestapo, so they did what they always did when faced with exposure, they lied. This one little issue should show any honest person that you cannot believe the WC Report (WCR) at all. They constantly wrote things that ran counter to THEIR OWN EVIDENCE! If a commission could have eyes, theirs would have been brown.
The Fort Worth Star Telegram stated in their November 24, 1963, edition that Molina was given a lie detector test and was questioned. Why was he given a lie detector test? To me, this would indicate that they felt Molina was involved in some way as you don't just give any person that you are questioning one. Was his old friend Lowery (at least an FBI informant if not an undercover agent) selling him out? The only other person who was given a polygraph test was Wesley Frazier. Even LHO wasn't given one and he was their prime suspect.
Was Molina involved? Was he let go because the DPD shifted their attention to the patsy LHO? What do you think?

Campbell was the Vice President for the TSBD, and he said Molina was not let go because of the events of November 23, 1963. He too said that plans had been underway to replace him with automation before the assassination had occurred.
Perhaps he wasn't let go because of the events of November 23, 1963, but instead because of what he saw and heard (see above) that did NOT match the later made-up official conclusion.

Molina felt that it was the events of November 23, 1963, that cost him his job as it was in the Dallas Morning News on that day. While it doesn't mention him by name it was probably not hard to figure it out if someone had wanted to. Here is what was in the newspaper.

The G.I. Forum was a good organization to blame initially since several members had been tied to the CP and this was the initial target before the White House told Curry that it was one man. The problem with this was that Molina did not renew his membership in the group back in July 1962. He was no longer a member of that group so why was he still being tied to it?
