It is time for more questions. Can any Warren Commission (WC) defender answer any of these?
(Note: This will be forty-three questions asked so far.)

1) Who was the man trying to cash checks at Hutch’s Grocery Store?
Well according to the owner and operator, Leonard Hutchinson, it was Lee Harvey Oswald (LHO). IF we go to CE 2862, FBI report, we will read more about this.

Mr. Hutchinson had advised previously that Oswald had frequented his grocery store for minor purchases and had attempted to cash several checks. The grocery is located about eight tenths of a mile form the Paine residence where Marina Oswald resided and where Oswald was known to have visited.
Mr. Hutchinson advised that the only person he ever seen with Oswald was a young woman, presumed to be his wife, Marina Oswald. The two spoke in a foreign tongue while in the store. Mr. Hutchinson stated that he had no knowledge of Jack Ruby until Ruby shot Oswald, and has no knowledge of an association between the two.

This was dated December 21, 1963. The FBI did an earlier report on this topic on December 3, 1963, and it is CE 2789. Let’s take a look at that.

Leonard Hutchinson…advised of the following concerning the report that Lee Harvey Oswald had attempted to cash a check in the amount of $189.00 at the store; that he frequented the store.
He said he had identified as a frequent customer through the appearances of Oswald on television.
The first time Mr. Hutchinson could recall Oswald coming into the store was on a Friday afternoon between 5:30 and 6 p.m. three weeks ago. Mr. Hutchinson placed the date as November 8, 1963. Oswald, he said, came to the window of the small office enclosure at the front of the store, stating “I would like to get this check cashed” and presenting the check. Mr. Hutchinson said that he noted that the check was a two-party check and in the amount of $189.00; that it was payable to “HARVEY OSWALD” written in ink and drawn on a counter check form. He did not recall the maker of the check, the bank on which it was drawn or anything by which the source of the counter check could be established.
Hutchinson said he promptly refused to cash the check for Oswald informing him that he did not cash two-party checks. Oswald walked out.
Thereafter, Oswald came into the store once or twice a week until the assassination, always he came alone apparently on foot as no car was observed, usually about 7:15 to 7:20 a.m. The store opens at 7 a.m.

He would say in the report that when Oswald came in they were the ONLY two people in the store so he could observe him without interruption. He said he tried to talk with him, but got no response from him even when Hutchinson said “good day” to him. Hutchinson could not recall if these visits were during the week or on weekends.
The purchases were always the same—small loaf of bread, “Mrs. Bard’s Cinnamon rolls”, and one gallon carton of milk. The total was always $1.39 and was paid in small denomination bills.
The incident regarding the check occurred on a Wednesday night, November 13, 1963, and he was in the company of a woman whom Mr. Hutchinson presumed to be his wife Marina. The two checkers at the store could not remember this incident, but Mr. Hutchinson gave the descriptions of the two to the FBI.
IF you look at this,
historymatters.com/archive/jfk/wc/wcvols/wh26/pages/WH_Vol26_0108a.gif
…you will see them. He lists the man as Harvey Oswald; 24 to 30; 5’10”; 155 to 160lbs; dark, shabby, unkept, always in the need of a haircut; eyes:dark; and complexion:DARK.
His description of the woman says her hair was light and “combed back”, but as we saw in an earlier posts in this series Marina was prone to pigtails at this time.
Furthermore, LHO was NOT known to visit Marina on Wednesday nights, so who was this masquerading as him? Was the woman Marina or someone else?
Ruth Paine was interviewed by the FBI about this issue on September 14, 1964, and she told them that LHO never went to Hutchinson's to shop.

She said LEE HARVEY OSWALD had never been a customer of Hutch's Super Market, to her knowledge. (Commission Document (CD) 1508, p. 2)

Ruth Paine would also tell the FBI that she did NOT see LHO drink large quantities of milk. In Marguerite Oswald's September 10, 1964, FBI interview about this issue she too said, to her knowledge, "her son never had a habit of eating cinnamon rolls with large quantities of milk." (Ibid., p. 3)
Marina Oswald also said that she had never been in Hutch's Super Market. She told the FBI the only time she recalled LHO trying to cash a check occurred in New Orleans. (Ibid., p. 5)
So, who was this then and why were they passing themself off as LHO?
Can any WC defender tell me the answers to these questions?
2) Why did LHO go to the Paine’s on this Thursday night?
The WC, and its current day defenders, make a big deal about LHO going to the Paine’s on 11/21/63 as if that shows he was guilty of shooting President John F. Kennedy (JFK). What many don’t realize, or ignore (or worse), is that LHO went to the Paine’s on another Thursday night. It was the night of Halloween, October 31, 1963. We know this because LHO cashed a check at an A&P (store #72) near the Paine’s home.
This story can be found in CE-1165…
historymatters.com/archive/jfk/wc/wcvols/wh22/pages/WH_Vol22_0127b.gif
…pages 224 and 225. In a nutshell, the store manager, Troy Erwin, Asst. store manager, Carl Self, and the cashier, Georgia Tarrants, all said LHO came into their store to cash a check. The check was from the Comptroller of Texas, was dated October 1, 1963, and was in the amount of $33.00.
On page 224 it says the following, “He [Erwin] said the check was cashed sometime between 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 31, 1963, through close of business on Friday, November 1, 1963.” However, the cashier that was at the store and spoke with LHO, and viewed his ID, said the incident was on Thursday, October 31, 1963, to the best of her memory.
She stated the check bore the name Lee Harvey Oswald on it and it was approved by Carl Self. He too says it was cashed there, but couldn’t recall if he approved it or not.
Why he went that night is a good question and perhaps someone can shed some light on it for us, but the bottom line is this, it is evidence for showing LHO did go to the Paine’s home on a Thursday night before 11/21/63 so this was NOT so odd or proof of his guilt as the WC and its current defenders claim.
3) What information did LHO have that would constitute being of a “security nature?”
In CE-835 we see a letter from FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover (JEH) to WC General Counsel J. Lee Rankin regarding the issue of whether LHO had been an informant for the FBI (#179) or not. Of course JEH denies he ever was. We will look at this issue more in a later post in this series, but for now let’s focus on what JEH said in the document. On page three of this rambling denial we see this comment.

Oswald was again interviewed by FBI Agents at the Dallas Police Department following his arrest after the assassination of the President. This interview was aimed at eliciting any admission he might make in association with the assassination, as well as to obtain any information he might have been able to furnish of a SECURITY NATURE. IF LHO had never been an informant or an employee of the FBI what information could he have that would constitute being of a SECURITY NATURE? What information was JEH looking for? Could it be details of the conspiracy in the murder of JFK?
Can any WC defender answer the question of what JEH was looking for from LHO that constituted a “security nature?”
Again, these incidents shed doubt on the WC’s final conclusion and in total help sink it.
