The Warren Commission (WC) claimed that Lee Harvey Oswald (LHO) assassinated President John F. Kennedy (JFK), shot and killed Dallas Police Officer J.D. Tippit (JDT), wounded Texas Governor John B. Connally (JBC) and attempted to kill retired General Edwin Walker. The evidence supporting these claims is absent from the WC’s twenty-six volumes of exhibits and testimony however, therefore, this has left many questions for us today. I have asked so many questions in this series already, and now it is time for more.

1) If LHO took the alleged murder weapon to work on November 22, 1963, as claimed, why did Marina Oswald not see the bag then or at any previous time?
The WC wrote the following in their Report about this incident.

The Commission considered the circumstances surrounding Oswald's return to Irving, Texas, on Thursday, November 21, 1963, …and the conclusion that Lee Harvey Oswald told the curtain rod story to Frazier to explain both the return to Irving and the obvious bulk of the package which he intended to bring to work the next day; … (WC Report, pp. 129 & 137)

LHO denied that he ever mentioned any curtain rod story to Wesley Frazier during his interrogation.

…I asked him if he had told Buell Wesley Frazier why he went home a different night, and if he had told him anything about bringing back some curtain rods. He denied it. (WCR, p. 604)

This should have been explored further, but it wasn’t. Instead it was just assumed that Frazier’s claim was the correct one. As we have seen previously in other posts Marina Oswald testified that she was not asked about curtain rods by LHO that night.
Mr. RANKIN. On the evening of the 21st, was anything said about curtain rods or his taking curtain rods to town the following day?
Mrs. OSWALD. No, I didn't have any.
Mr. RANKIN. He didn't say anything like that?
Mrs. OSWALD. No.
Why would LHO mention curtain rods to Wes Frazier but not his wife? There were curtain rods in the Paine garage after the assassination however and we learn about these from Secret Service (SS) Joe Howlett’s and Ruth Paine’s testimony. Of course this was used by the WC to illustrate that LHO never took any curtain rods and instead took his alleged rifle.
Mr. JENNER. Mrs. Paine, are the curtain rods that Mr. Howlett has taken down from the lower of the two shelves, the curtain rods to which you made reference in your testimony to the Commission last week?
Mrs. PAINE. Yes; they are.
Mr. JENNER. And you know of no other curtain rods, do you, in your garage during the fall of 1963?
Mrs. PAINE. No; I do not.
Mr. JENNER. And in particular, no other curtain rods in your garage at any time on the 21st or 22nd of November 1963?
Mrs. PAINE. None whatsoever.
Ruth Paine claimed that she saw no curtain rods during the fall of 1963 and that the two in evidence were the ONLY two in the garage. The problem with this is that her husband didn’t agree with her on either count.
Mr. LIEBELER - Mr. Paine, you mentioned before these curtain rods that were in your garage. Can you tell us approximately how many curtain rods there were in the garage when you last saw them and tell us when you last saw them?
Mr. PAINE – I saw them quite recently, 2 weeks ago.
Mr. LIEBELER – How many curtain rods were there then?
Mr. PAINE – There might be as many as four.
This too required more investigation, but once again the WC opted to just take Ruth Paine’s word since that fit their preconceived theory. Michael Paine’s testimony shows that there were as many as four curtain rods in the garage in the weeks leading up to the assassination, therefore, the two SS Agent Howlett recovered from the garage after the assassination do not mean that LHO couldn’t have taken a pair as that scenario would leave two.
This wasn’t the only time that the WC took her word over his even though there wasn’t any firm evidence supporting her claim. Her claim simply fit the WC’s preconceived theory better.
The bottom line is that their own star witness, Marina Oswald, said that she never saw any bag on Thursday night or the next morning.

Marina stated that when Oswald visited the Paine house on Thursday evening, November 21, 1963, he did not bring anything with him when he arrived at the house.
She further advised that she does not know of anything that Oswald took with him from the Paine house to work the next morning, November 22… She examined this sack and said she had never seen anything like it and that she had not seen such a sack or such paper in the possession of Oswald on November 21, 1963, or at any time prior thereto.
Marina was also shown the original paper sack found near the window from which the assassination shots were fired and she stated she had, to her knowledge, never seen this sack or one like it. (Commission Exhibit (CE) 1401, p. 272)

Mr. JENNER. Did you see any paper, wrapping paper, of the character that you have identified around your home that evening?
Mrs. PAINE. No.
So Wes Frazier, Ruth Paine and Marina Oswald did not see any bag or wrapping paper, but the WC claimed that LHO brought one home on November 21, 1963, anyway. Was LHO Houdini?
Can any WC defender explain how LHO brought home a bag that no one saw?
