The Warren Commission (WC) claimed its famed witness, Mary Bledsoe, could IDENTIFY Lee Harvey Oswald (LHO) as being on the bus they claimed he was on because he had stayed at her boarding house in early October of the same year. This is important as IF they couldn't show that he did stay there then she would NOT know LHO from a hole in the ground. What does her testimony say regarding this IMPORTANT matter? Let's look and see.
************************************************
Mr. BALL - Now, did you ever rent a room in your home to Lee Oswald?
Mrs. BLEDSOE - Yes; uh huh.
Okay, this sounds cut and dried, right? NOT so fast, as with the WC NOTHING is ever cut and dried. Let's keep going to see if this claim has any SUPPORT behind it.
Mr. BALL - Can you tell me about the first time that you ever saw him. What the date was?
Mrs. BLEDSOE - The first time I ever saw him or heard of him, I was in the backyard doing a lot of yardwork. I come around the house and he was standing on the porch, and he said, "Do you have a room for rent?"
I had a "for rent" sign out. I said, "Yes" and he said, "May I see it?"
And I wanted--"Yes"; and then I was trying to size him up to get in that room, and--in the house, and I said, "Are you married?"
And he said, "Yes; I am married. I just want this for a short time. My wife lives at Irving."
And then we got inside the house and he had a thing where this---pictures of his wife and baby, and he said he was in the Marine Corps, and I tried to be nice to him, and so, he paid me $7, and---
Mr. BALL - Then did he tell you what his name was?
Mrs. BLEDSOE - Oh, yes.
Let's stop here for a second. Will LHO use his claimed famed alias -- Hidell, or his real name with her? As you will see, he will supposedly use his real name which makes NO sense to me. I mean IF you are going to invent an alias for the weapon orders, why NOT use it constantly?
Mr. BALL - What did he say?
Mrs. BLEDSOE - His name was Oswald, and he put it on this thing, and my son took it and sold it.
So we see he didn't use his alias, but instead would leave a trail with his real name according to her. What about his OTHER alias, you know the one, O.H. Lee, the ONLY one listed on the DPD arrest paperwork on 11/22/63? Why NOT use that one? What kind of anonymity could he expect if he kept using his real name? Seems to me NONE, and this goes against the claims of him planning this assassination for sometime.
Look at the second part that is underlined. The "thing" in question is a calendar and was used by Bledsoe to show who rented her rooms. See?
Mr. BALL - You said he put it on this thing?
Mrs. BLEDSOE - This right here.
Mr. BALL - What is, "this thing"?
Mrs. BLEDSOE - Calendar.
So LHO allegedly signed or wrote his name on this calendar per her, but she said her son SOLD IT? Let's learn more about this process of hers.
Mr. BALL - Now, you have a calendar here?
Mrs. BLEDSOE - That is my calendar.
Mr. BALL - That is the calendar for December 1963, and I notice it has dates and names and dates. Is that the way you keep books on your rooms?
Mrs. BLEDSOE - Yes; but I don't now. I did then, because I just had started. The first one I got was in September.
Mr. BALL - September of 1963?
Mrs. BLEDSOE - Uh-huh.
Mr. BALL - He put his name on the calendar?
Mrs. BLEDSOE - Well, got it in September. He got it, my son sold it for $5, and I didn't even know that he tore that out.
Mary Bledsoe was a very hard witness to follow, but what she is saying here is LHO supposedly put his name in her calendar, in October of 1963 (she is confused and saying September above), but that page is MISSING now as her son TORE IT OUT TO SELL IT!
Mr. BALL - Now, let me see here in this calendar. It runs from January 1963, to December of 1963, but October of 1963, has been torn out?
Mrs. BLEDSOE - Uh-huh. And he said his name was Lee Oswald was what his name was, and I said, "Well, I can't think of that name Oswald, I will call you Lee."
So, he put it down on the 4th. Just rented for a week, you see, the 7th.
Again, I don't get why you would invent an alias, O.H. Lee (and Alek Hidell per the WC) and then keep using your REAL NAME! Does anyone else have an explanation for this? Also, note that the calendar was the way she "kept her books!"
Mr. BALL - You said the 4th?
Mrs. BLEDSOE - On the 7th.
Mr. BALL - On the 7th of October? That is the first day you ever saw him?
Mrs. BLEDSOE - Ever saw him.
Mr. BALL - On the 7th of October you rented the room to him, didn't you?
Mrs. BLEDSOE - Uh-huh.
Mr. BALL - And is that the date that he put his name on the calendar?
Mrs. BLEDSOE - Yes; that is the day.
Well good, now we have some supporting evidence for her claim that he stayed at her boarding house, right? NOT so fast. Remember this comment by her?
Mr. BALL - He put his name on the calendar?
Mrs. BLEDSOE - Well, got it in September. He got it, my son sold it for $5, and I didn't even know that he tore that out.
The WC did their usual masterful job of NOT following up on this statement and moved the conversation as far away from this comment as possible.
What she is saying is DYNAMITE to her claim and the WC's claim that LHO stayed at her rooming house, and thus, she would KNOW him to RECOGNIZE him on the bus driven by Cecil McWatters. IF you read the testimony and comments of others on the bus you will quickly see NONE of them said it was LHO (McWatters initially said it was, but quickly recanted by Saturday 11/23/63 and then told the WC in his testimony it was NOT LHO) who they saw on this bus. I will cover this area in another post, but for now just know the whole claim of LHO being on the bus rested on Bledsoe's claim! But with this comment we see she had NOTHING to give us that supports her claim.
The alleged signing by LHO is gone as her son ALLEGEDLY SOLD IT! Thus, her only evidence that he stayed at her room is gone.
I would bet, given the circumstances, the WC and the Media, could have found the person this was sold to quite quickly IF they had wanted to. Why didn't they? Why did the WC just seem to IGNORE this comment and move on? Isn't the FAILURE to find this person, or even try to, an indication the whole story is probably contrived? It is to me.
So we see, the SOLE WITNESS for LHO being on that bus has NO way of showing us she ever met or knew LHO to know it was him on the bus!
Yet another piece of the puzzle given to us by the WC is worthless in showing LHO did what was *CLAIMED* of him!
