Seymour Weitzman:

If Seymour Weitzman was the source of the “mistaken” Mauser identification of the rifle as claimed by the Warren Commission (WC) and its defenders, why did Dallas television station KBOX not mention him in their broadcast dealing with the discovery of the rifle?
If we go to Commission Exhibit (CE) 3048 we will see the following:

A rifle found in a staircase on the fifth floor of the building on which the assassin is believed to have shot the President of the United States. Sheriff's deputies identify the weapon as a 7.65 Mauser, a German-made Army rifle with a telescopic sight. It had one shell in the chamber. Three spent shells were found nearby. (KBOX Audio Reel 1, Item 33, 11/22/63, CE 3048, p. 599)

The first thing we see in this broadcast is that the rifle was found on the FIFTH FLOOR as others said (i.e. Inspector Herbert Sawyer) and not on the sixth floor as the WC would say in their report. Why was any rifle on the fifth floor when LHO was never on that floor per the WC shooting at anyone? Next, while we see Sheriff deputies mentioned (as in plural) this broadcast does NOT mention Weitzman by name as the person making that identification. Even if you want to assume he was involved you can’t show others weren’t since they used a PLURAL term. The other Sheriff’s deputy involved was Eugene Boone and he said Captain Will Fritz of the Dallas Police Department (DPD) said the rifle found was a Mauser.
Mr. BALL - Who referred to it as a Mauser that day?
Mr. BOONE - I believe Captain Fritz. He had knelt down there to look at it, and before he removed it, not knowing what it was, he said that is what it looks like. This is when Lieutenant Day, I believe his name is, the ID man was getting ready to photograph it.
We were just discussing it beck and forth. And he said it looks like a 7.65 Mauser.
If KBOX had relied on Weitzman for this information, why did they NOT mention him by name or as the source of this information?
