The Warren Commission (WC) claimed that Lee Harvey Oswald (LHO) and Jack Ruby did not know each other. We have looked at issues before that calls that statement into question, and this post will provide more evidence that further creates doubt regarding the WC’s claim.
****************************************
On November 10, 1963, Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company long distance operator Marion Hayes, in Atlanta, Georgia, received a request from the Dogwood Motel in Chamblee, Georgia. A male caller was requesting to place a call to a Lee Harvey Oswald in New Orleans, Louisiana.

She recalled this call was placed from the Dogwood Motel in Chamblee, Georgia. She requested the information operator in New Orleans to obtain LEE HARVEY OSWALD’s telephone number and after obtaining same, she made repeated efforts to this number but was unsuccessful. She stated that then the caller gave her a Dallas number for OSWALD and she was unable to reach him in Dallas. The caller then had her contact the New Orleans number again but she was unsuccessful in locating OSWALD.
Miss Hayes added that approximately 10:00 p.m. that same evening the same person using the same credit card number (ending in S32) requested her to call OSWALD in Dallas, Texas, at which time the call was completed. (Commission Document (CD) 20, p. 28)

This statement by Ms. Hayes shows that the caller knew the two locations to check for LHO (although the 10th was a Sunday and LHO was at the Paine residence in Irving). How many people knew that LHO could have been in either location?
Chamblee is a small town northeast of Atlanta and according to Wikipedia the 1960 census listed their population at 6,635. We can assess their 1963 population to be 7,383 by taking the 1970 population of 9,127 as follows:
9127 – 6635 = 2492 ÷ 10 = 249.2 x 3 = 747.6
6635 + 747.6 = 7382.6 or 7383
This makes Chamblee a very small town so who could have been calling from there looking for LHO? Gets even more interesting when we see who else this person wanted to talk with.

Miss Hayes stated further that the same caller using the same credit card number then attempted to reach JACK RUBENSTEIN at a number in Dallas, Texas. No one answered this number and the caller then asked her to contact the information operator in Dallas for the telephone number of JACK RUBENSTEIN or JACK RUBY stating everyone in Dallas would know him as he operated a night club. Miss Hayes stated that the information operator gave her a telephone number which number she called but there was no answer. She stated the caller then instructed her to contact JACK RUBENSTEIN’s sister, Myrtle, in Dallas, Texas, furnishing the number and this call was completed. She stated approximately 1:00 a.m. the following morning, this same person using the same credit card number placed a call for Dallas, Texas, for JACK RUBENSTEIN and the call was completed. (Ibid.)

Now the interest factor goes up as the same caller also wanted to talk with Jack Ruby as well. This would mean that the caller knew both men. True, it doesn’t prove that LHO and Jack Ruby knew each other, but it increases the possibility since the caller knew both. The caller even knew Ruby’s true surname as well.
Furthermore, the caller was aware of Ruby’s sister Myrtle and that is impressive as she is not a well-known sibling as she gave no testimony to the WC. Remember these things for a little later.
Ms. Hayes had been a telephone operator for twenty years at the time of the incident, thus, she was not someone that should become confused over matters like this. Here are her final comments to the FBI.

Miss HAYES stated that she has approximately twenty years’ experience with the Southern Bell Telephone Company. She stated she has been emotionally upset concerning the assassination of President KENNEDY and has been watching television continuously concerning the events in Washington and Dallas. She stated she was watching television at the time RUBY shot OSWALD and she noticed just prior to RUBY shooting OSWALD that OSWALD appeared to recognize him. (Ibid., p. 29)

She was not the only person who thought that LHO recognized Ruby either. Her experience is important because the FBI and WC would go into denial mode.

THEODORE A. KING, State Security Officer for the Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company, advised that it was very improbable that the same telephone operator would have received and placed all of the calls by MARION HAYES.
Mr. KING made available the record of cancelled calls for the dates of 3 , 10, and 17, 1963, (Sundays) and a review of these cancelled calls failed to reveal any as mentioned by Ms. HAYES. (Ibid., p. 30)

According to this statement the calls that Ms. Hayes described never occurred. Are you surprised? What you won’t find is a record of these cancelled calls Mr. King reviewed in the twenty-six volumes. I wonder why?
The FBI did not stop there however as they once again illustrated that they would leave no stone unturned when they were attempting to debunk something.

ROBERT AMES, Room Clerk, Dogwood Motel, made available records of tenants for the month of November, 1963. He also made available all telephone records and a review of these records failed to reflect any information of calls to Dallas or New Orleans or anybody who would meet the description with a credit card number to verify information as furnished by Ms. HAYES. (Ibid., p. 31)

Again, where are these records? Why are they not in the evidence? I guess we have another person who wanted to be famous, huh? I guess that is why the FBI was quick to state that she “watched television continuously” in order to try and explain how she would know that LHO spent time in Dallas and New Orleans; how she would know Ruby’s real surname when he was always referred to as Ruby; how she would know the telephone numbers for LHO in New Orleans and Dallas; how she would know the telephone numbers for Ruby; and how would she know about his sister named Myrtle. I did a search on her and found nothing.
Now the WC and FBI can claim this, but where is the supporting evidence for this claim? Just as they failed to show how and when LHO would have learned of the parade route there is no evidence showing that she learned all this from television coverage. Furthermore, she had twenty years of experience so it seems doubtful that she would be confused and make all of this up, but you can’t totally rule it out with what we have seen so far.
That is why it is helpful to have Marina Oswald’s former business manager’s, James Martin, WC testimony to help us on this issue. He will say that he heard about this around February 20, 1964, as he testified on the 27th and states that he first became aware of it about it a week before.
Representative BOGGS. Who is this individual?
Mr. MARTIN. I have been trying to remember his name. I can find out his name. It began with an "H".
Mr. DULLES. Would you repeat the story, please, and then we will continue with the examination.
Mr. MARTIN. I met a gentleman who is an executive with the Dinkler Hotel chain, and he related the story to me that was told to him by one of their engineers, a maintenance man in the Atlanta, in their Atlanta hotel. The maintenance man's wife was an, or is a long distance telephone operator, and on the night preceding the assassination there was an individual that called, well, the way I heard the story, that she said he sounded like he had been drinking, and that he mentioned to her to remember this telephone call because it would go down in history. He made a credit card call to Lee Harvey Oswald, and simply said, "Proceed as planned." Then he made another telephone call to Jack Ruby and told him that if anything went wrong he knew what to do. Now, I questioned this, I guess there are numerous rumors of this type or whatever it is, and he said no, that it was definitely the truth, and the reason she hadn't come out before with it was that it is a violation of Federal law to listen to a long distance telephone call, and that they finally did report it to the FBI.
Mr. REDLICH. The person you were speaking to, as I understand this story, received the information from a maintenance man whose wife was the telephone operator who overheard the conversation?
Mr. MARTIN. Yes.
Representative BOGGS. Was this a telephone operator in a Dinkler hotel?
Mr. MARTIN. I didn't get that whether it was in a Dinkler hotel or whether she was in the long distance or toll offices in Atlanta.
Representative BOGGS. Did this person have the credit card number and so forth?
Mr. MARTIN. No. The person that I was talking to?
Representative BOGGS. Did the telephone operator have it?
Mr. MARTIN. The telephone operator did, or the telephone company has the records.
Mr. REDLICH. When did you hear about this story, Mr. Martin?
Mr. MARTIN. About a week ago.
This is basically the same thing we heard from Ms. Hayes except she didn’t say that the call was the night before the assassination and that the caller was drunk. Or did she? How do we know that the FBI didn’t omit this from their 12/2/63 report? Remember, Martin said that she was afraid to say anything because listening in on a long distance call was a federal law violation. Surely this could make her hesitant to say anything about them altering or omitting parts of her statements. Surely the FBI would recognize that having these calls the night before the assassination instead of weeks before could add weight to her statements. They did the same thing to Wayne January to lessen the significance of his statements. The night before could explain why this person did not give up after the first failure to connect. Simply put, they did not have time to wait.
This post is not meant by itself to show a connection, but rather is another piece of the puzzle. When put with my other posts on this topic and the witnesses that saw LHO and Jack Ruby together it becomes clear that they had some kind of connection. This connection would have to be kept hidden by the WC as it only points to a conspiracy.
Since there is again evidence pointing to a connection combined with the total lack of investigation into this issue by the WC we again have doubt in regards to the WC’s conclusion. Therefore, I conclude that the WC’s conclusion is again sunk by its own evidence.
