The head shot is captured in incredible detail by the Zapruder film. At the time the shot was fired, the limousine was directly in front of Zapruder’s view. The debate about the direction of this shot has gone on for years. However, using the film and the concept of conservation of momentum, we can clearly argue that this shot was from the front direction. The momentum is expected to move the head in the direction of the projectile velocity. The shot enters at Zapruder frame 313 (Z313). Below, the two figures show Z312, just prior to impact and Z317 a few frames after impact. On these figures, the angle of the head tilt is marked with a pair of white lines. The angle starts out at about 150 degrees. After the shot it expands to 180 degrees. This is clear proof of the momentum moving in the rear direction and expanding the angle. Note that had this shot entered from the rear, the angle would have reduced to about 120 degrees or less.
