This will be one of the shorter installments in this series as it is cut and dried. The Warren Commission (WC) claimed that the alleged murder weapon, CE-139, was the ONLY Mannlicher-Carcano to have the serial number “C2766” on it.
All one has to do is go to CE-2562 and read this letter (4/30/64) from FBI Director J.Edgar Hoover (JEH) to the WC to see this claim is FALSE.

William Sucher on March 12, 1964, advised he has bought hundreds of thousands of rifles overseas as Italian Government surplus and he does NOT maintain the serial numbers of these rifles. Many were collected from battlefields and places of improper storage and they were in very poor condition. They were usually bought by the pound rather than by the unit. Upon arrival in Canada, defective parts were removed and salable rifles were sometimes composed of parts of three or more weapons. Sucher advised the Mannlicher-Carcano rifle was manufactured in Italy from 1891 to 1941 however in the 1930’s ordered all arms factories to manufacture the Mannlicher-Carcano rifle. SINCE MANY CONCERNS WERE MANUFACTURING THE SAME WEAPON, THE SAME SERIAL NUMBER APPEARS ON WEAPONS MANUFACTURED BY MORE THAN ONE CONCERN.” (emphasis added) (CE 2562, p. 808; pp. 14-15 in original.)

We see in this one paragraph that the claim of the WC is INCORRECT (and a lie really since they had evidence showing their claim was false) as more than one rifle COULD HAVE THE SAME SERIAL NUMBER! Also, if you read this letter you will see a constant reference to the term CARBINE and the alleged murder weapon was NOT a Carbine. It was a SHORT RIFLE. This shows the order form in question bears a weapon that was NOT the same as the alleged weapon (a 36” Carbine vs. a 40” short rifle) so how would LHO windup with a DIFFERENT weapon than he ordered?
We don’t know as NO WC defender has been able to produce any evidence showing this ever occurred. All we get from them is “a 40” Carcano was sent by mistake” with NO supporting evidence being provided.
I also like how this document has the banner “LEE HARVEY OSWALD” when the twenty-six volumes is devoid of any real evidence showing LHO ever ordered, received or owned the alleged murder weapon.
This proves another claim by the WC is incorrect, thus, their conclusion is sunk again.
