Did Jack Ruby know J.D. Tippit (JDT)? That has been a question many have sought an answer to for many years. Let’s see if we can find out.
**************************************
The Warren Commission said they did NOT know each other. Period.

Investigation has disclosed no evidence that Officer J. D. Tippit was acquainted with either Ruby or Oswald. Neither Tippit's wife nor his close friends knew of such an acquaintanceship. Tippit was not known to frequent nightclubs and he had no reason during the course of his police duties to enter Ruby's clubs. (WCR, p. 369)

It seems pretty cut and dried to me—the WC is saying Ruby and JDT did NOT know each other. Period. So why do they have evidence in their twenty-six volumes that shows something different? Why would they LIE about this evidence and what it shows?
Jack Ruby had a bartender named Andrew Armstrong, and he was interviewed by the FBI on November 26, 1963, to get his perception regarding Ruby’s mood and more information about Ruby.
This became known as Armstrong Ex. 5310. There is much to it so it became segmented into parts (i.e. A, B, etc…), and the part we are looking for is found on pages 101 & 102 and is knows as part “G”.

He [Ruby] had completed one or two telephone calls within a matter of less than five minutes when they both overheard an announcement on Radio Station KLIF to the effect that Officer Tippit of the Dallas Police Department (DPD) had been shot and killed. Ruby mentioned to him, Armstrong, at that time that he KNEW Officer Tippit. Armstrong said he believes that this may have been the first announcement on Station KLIF which identified by name the officer who had been shot. (It has been established by the DPD that Officer J.D. Tippit was shot and killed at approximately 1:18 p.m., November 22, 1963.) (Armstrong Exhibit 5310-G, p. 3; WC XIX, P. 102)

Armstrong said Ruby told him he KNEW JDT. It would seem a little hard to believe that he would remember this wrong. It is pretty important. The other option is that he lied, but why? Why would Armstrong lie about this? What could be gained from lying? The report also mentions the DPD said he was shot and killed at 1:18 p.m., where as the WC would say “about 1:16 pm.” and their own star witness would say 1:06 p.m. Methodist Hospital, where he was taken, listed his time of death as 1:15 p.m. and that was AFTER he was taken there and examined before being pronounced dead.
Of course, the WC would say it was a DIFFERENT Tippit. But Armstrong has much corroboration for his version of events. Larry Crafard also worked for Jack Ruby in various roles (lights operator for the stage, sometime bartender, and doorman) and he too remembered the scene following the announcement of JDT’s death. This is from an FBI interview and listed as CE 2430.

It is Crafard’s definite recollection that he was in the presence of Jack Ruby when the news came over the air concerning the assassination of President Kennedy and death of Officer J.D. Tippit on November 22, 1963. At that time, Ruby referred to Officer Tippit by his first name or a nickname, neither of which Crafard can recall, and said he knew him quite well. He was DEFINITELY referring to the Dallas, Texas, Police Department Officer, Tippit, who was shot the day of the assassination.(Emphasis mine) (CE 2430, p. 1; WCR p. 530)

So this makes two people who said he was referring to JDT. There are more though. Inmate Jack Hardee also confirmed that Jack Ruby knew JDT. If we go to CE 1763 we will see the following.

Hardee also stated that the police officer whom HARVEY LEE OSWALD ALLEGEDLY killed after he ALLEGEDLY assassinated the president was a frequent visitor to Ruby’s nightclub, along with another officer who was a motorcycle patrol in the Oaklawn section of Dallas. Hardee stated from his observation there appeared to be a very close relationship between these three individuals. (Emphasis mine) (CE 1963, p. 66; WCR, p. 373)

First of all, whomever wrote this should be applauded as FINALLY someone used the correct terminology as LHO was NEVER convicted of killing President John F. Kennedy (JFK) or JDT! Secondly, we have another person saying that JDT and Jack Ruby knew each other. Finally, who is HARVEY LEE OSWALD?
Jack Ruby’s OWN sister, Eva Grant, would say the two men KNEW each other. She would tell the NY Herald Tribune that “Jack knew him, and I knew him. Jack called him “buddy.” (NY Herald Tribune, 12/5/63)
There is still more. Harold Richard Williams said he was arrested in early November 1963 at the Mikado Club. He said he was put in a police car driven by JDT. He would further state that Ruby was NEXT to JDT in the car and that JDT called Ruby “Rube.” He would tell Mark Lane in an interview that he had NO doubt it was Ruby and JDT who were in the car with him.
Why would the WC DISCOUNT its own evidence like this? How could it reach the conclusion the two men did NOT know each other when they had all this evidence in their twenty-six volumes showing otherwise (plus Ruby’s sister’s interview and Williams’ interview with Mark Lane)?
