The Warren Commission (WC) claimed Lee Harvey Oswald (LHO) shot at General Edwin A. Walker (EAW), shot at and killed President John F. Kennedy (JFK), shot at Governor John B. Connally (JBC) and shot at and killed Dallas Police Officer J.D. Tippit (JDT). They also said he accomplished all of this by himself with NO assistance from anyone else. He was in fact, a loner.
This loner also managed to get quite a bit of help from the State Department (SD) and U.S. Embassy in Moscow as we have seen in earlier posts in this series relating to the passport and visa issues. This post will look at more assistance LHO would receive in various matters that defy his status as a loner.
******************************************
If LHO had renounced his U.S. citizenship he would NOT have been allowed to return to the U.S. in all likelihood (I say this because when dealing with LHO nothing is for sure), so it is key that it was ruled he had not. Who made the ruling? U.S. Embassy official Richard E. Snyder was the man who decided LHO had NOT renounced his citizenship for the most part according to the WC Report (WCR).

Primarily on the basis of Oswald’s interview with Snyder on Monday, July 10, 1961, the American Embassy concluded that Oswald had NOT expatriated himself. On the basis of this tentative decision, Oswald was given back his American passport, which he had surrendered in 1959. (WCR, p. 277) (Emphasis added)

This is a key admission because we have seen in this series before that LHO did do all the right things to renounce his citizenship, but for some reason he as NOT allowed to follow through with it. Why not? Since Richard Snyder was such a key part in all of this it is necessary to mention that East German Intelligence had him down as a CIA agent. Working in the U.S. Embassy would give a CIA agent perfect cover as well as diplomatic immunity too. The CIA would admit to the House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) that Snyder did work from them, but said it was simply in an administrative way. I quoted this from Ira David Woods III’s chronology before.

Richard Snyder formally joins the CIA. This is his first day of active duty. Snyder will eventually be stationed at the American Embassy in Moscow where he will be in a position to have communication with Lee Harvey Oswald. Later, the CIA will formally deny that LHO ever communicated with one of its agents while he was in Moscow.
The Brief History of Interest in Richard Snyder memorandum continues: “He entered on duty with CIA on November 8, 1949, as a GS-9 ($4600.00 per annum). According to his personnel file (see tab c) he was assigned to the Office of Policy Coordination and was slated to serve in Tokyo (the file contains no entry showing he actually served in Tokyo).” The CIA told the HSCA that Richard E. Snyder’s position with the CIA involved “an accounting project, the purpose of which was to provide funds for administrative purposes."

Was this all Richard Snyder dealt with? LHO had every right to renounce his citizenship and he said he wanted to. In Commission Exhibit (CE) 916 we see the U.S. Embassy had NO right to stop him either!

This wire says it all. IF LHO wanted to renounce his U.S. citizenship, and he claimed he did, then the Embassy was NOT allowed to stop him, but that is exactly what Snyder did. Why is that? Did Snyder know via his employment with the CIA that LHO would probably be rebuffed by the Soviets and that he would need to come back to the U.S. at some point?
Of course another person who many suspect of having ties to the CIA comes into this story at this point in time. Priscilla Johnson interviewed LHO when he first got to Moscow in October of 1959, and she had close ties to both Richard Snyder and John McVikar at the U.S. Embassy. Priscilla Johnson attended the Russian Research Center at Harvard University and this was a known part of the CIA’s Center for International Affairs program under Allen Dulles. She at the very least had ties to the CIA if not a full-blown covert agent. Again, her profession of being a writer is a great cover for a CIA agent. Priscilla Johnson would be instrumental in the discovery of the alleged bus tickets to Mexico City just weeks before the WC published their Report in September 1964. She would of course fill Snyder and McVickar in on her interview with LHO soon after it concluded.
Why did LHO’s anti-American radio broadcast in Moscow not prevent his return to the U.S. later on? Or his admission regarding breaking U.S. laws by taking an oath to Russia? If we go to CE 100 we see the following regarding these issues.

You can see in this part, and in question five, LHO mentions his legal right to renounce his citizenship, but Snyder would block this. Why did Snyder care so much if LHO renounced his U.S. citizenship or not if he was some loner defector as claimed? We have seen numerous examples of help for LHO and Marina Oswald in securing their visas and passports when they really didn’t deserve that kind of assistance. Why was so much help given to a supposed loner who had defected to the U.S.’s arch enemy?
Furthermore, LHO was given the money to return to the U.S. after he defected, attempted to renounce his citizenship (and was prevented from doing so illegally) and threaten to give away top secret information to the Soviets. Why would we lend him the money to return under these circumstances? Also, why was he NOT made to pay it back like Paul M. Raigorodsky was?
Mr. JENNER. Well, where were you born?
Mr. RAIGORODSKY. I was born in Russia, I lived in Russia until I was, oh, let's see, I escaped from Russia in 1919, went to Czechoslovakia to the university there… I went to the university there and I am escaping from Russia--I fought against the Bolsheviks in two different armies and then came to the United States with the help of the American Red Cross and the YMCA…Well, I came to this country…
Mr. JENNER. In 1920?
Mr. RAIGORODSKY. Yes; and they told me that for the money that they advanced for me to travel, that we only have to serve in the United States for some capacity, so when I came in, I enlisted in the Air Force and was sent to Camp Travis, Texas, and then in 1922 I received an honorable discharge, and because it was I enlisted in time of war, I became full-fledged citizen in 4 months after I arrived to this country….
Why was LHO NOT made to serve the country to repay for his loan to return to the U.S.? Or did he serve in another way? Like in some sort of intelligence role with the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) or the CIA or the FBI?
LHO, and Marina, constantly got the benefit of the doubt in this part of his life as everyone was very helpful in getting them back to America. I guess this would be balanced out later on when LHO was NEVER given the benefit of the doubt following JFK’s assassination. LHO would not be debriefed officially by the CIA when he came back to the U.S. either. Why not?
We can see from the impersonations and helpful hands LHO received for many years that he was anything but a “loner” as claimed by the WC. This has to be one of their silliest claims the WC made as he was married with two children by the time of his death and this is in direct opposition to being a loner.
There was evidence showing LHO had connections to different groups, including intelligence groups, but as usual the WC just ignored these leads and evidence as this complicated their simple theory of a “loner acting alone killing JFK and JDT” scenario. Given all these unexplored leads we have to conclude the conclusion of the WC is incorrect, and thus, sunk.
